In the year 1946 two brothers, Walker and Freeman Ping envisioned a camp where Christian young people could go and grow in their relationship with Christ. These men invested in this vision by donating the property where Hilltop resides to this day. The land was donated to East Columbus Christian Church for the sole purpose of developing a place where young people could grow in faith and learn about the opportunities to serve Christ. Through the leadership of the East Columbus Christian Church, Hilltop Christian Service Camp was established. The camp prospered under their oversight for the first 50 years of its existence.
Though the name has changed over the years (Hilltop Christian Service Camp, Hilltop Christian Assembly, & currently Hilltop Christian Camp), the purpose of providing a secluded and unique setting where every person attending can have a great time while encountering the presence of the Living God has not changed. Hilltop is unashamedly Christian and therefore the focus of the mission is still Jesus first. Everything else we do is secondary. Along side times of serious study and worship, are times of fun with friends. Many life-long friendships were and are being established through a common bond with an extraordinary experience at Hilltop. The most important being a friendship with ones Lord and Saviour.
The success of this venture was the result of the camp being built on the foundation of Christ Jesus. The Ping brothers probably never imagined what their gift would accomplish. As a result of the faithfulness of the founders, lives have been changed and the world has been impacted for the cause of Christ. Many gave their lives to Christ here at Hilltop. Many answered the call to live as salt and light, and still others committed themselves to full-time Christian service.
What the Ping brothers, East Columbus Christian Church and the countless volunteers imagined became a reality and stands as a tribute to what God can do through His faithful.
To this day Hilltop has remained faithful to the purpose for which it was established.
Since its inception Hilltop has seen over 988 baptisms, and missions offerings in excess of $140,000. We continue to provide the opportunity for young people to make a life-changing commitment to Christ, to strengthen that relationship so they can be "salt and light" in their world, to be active members of the body of Christ, and to consider if God has a calling on their life to make a commitment to full-time Christian service.
The 20/20 Vision committee was formed to prayerfully consider the needs of the camp over the next 12 years. As a result, he following vision became clear. We hope through Gods guidance and blessing to complete the three, four-year phases in this 12 year plan.
Phase II (under construction by Sept. 2016):
Construction of new dining/classroom facilities
Construction of new chapel
Acquire adjacent properties when available for developing
additional programming
Phase III (under construction after Sept. 2016):
Construction of a retreat center
Acquire adjacent properties when available for developing
additional programming
To achieve each of these goals the Hilltop Board of Directors has committed to raising $1.6 million over the next 4 years.
Each of the Hilltop directors has personally committed to support this campaign financially; their own contributions over 4 years totaling $10,000.
We are praying for God to send us at least 4,000 individuals, families, or groups to partner with us by committing to give $100 per year for 4 years or $400 over the next 4 years. Some may be able to give substantially more and others less, but as the body of Christ each doin what they can according to the riches God has blessed them with we can meet and exceed this goal. Wont you join us in this endeavor?
$400 over 4 years is equivalent to:
$0.27 a day or the cost of mailing a postcard in 2008
$1.92 a week or less than the cost of a cup of Starbucks
coffee
$8.33 a month or less than the cost for 2 to eat one meal at
a typical fast food restaurant
